Professor Shafi Ahmed is a multi-award winning cancer surgeon, teacher, futurist, innovator and entrepreneur. He is a 3x TEDx and an international keynote speaker and is faculty at Harvard Medical School, Bart’s Medical School, Imperial College London, Queen Mary University, Bradford University, Bolton University, Stellenbosch University and Singularity University where he teaches on medicine, digital health, innovation, entrepreneurship and digital transformation. He has delivered over 300 keynotes in over 35 countries on innovation and the digital transformation of health and his work has been featured in over 400 newspapers, tech journals and mainstream TV news channels including Sky, BBC, CNN, ABC, Al Jazeera, CNBC, Time, Forbes, Bloomberg.
He is currently a member of the NHS Assembly advising on the NHS long term plan. He is the Vodafone Connected Health/5G Ambassador and sits on the board of The Centre for Health a collaboration between Vodafone and Deloitte. He has been an advisor to the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health to help deliver innovation and digital health. He has been a consultant advisor for Merck, PwC, FDA, Google, Johnson and Johnson, Roche, 3M, Amgen, Biogen and Havas Lynx.
He has recently joined as an honorary professor of practice at the UCL Global Business School of Health. He is an honorary visiting professor at The University of Bradford where he delivered the Cantor Lecture of Technology in 2017 and the public lecture to open the Digital Health Enterprise Zone. In 2020 he was awarded the Spinoza visiting Professorship at the University of Amsterdam. He is a visiting professor at Imperial College, London. He has been appointed as Professor of Strategic Innovation at Bolton University. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from UK, Spain, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia.
He founded and chairs the Webit Health summit in Spain and co-founded the GIANT health summit in London bringing together a community of 200 000 digital health innovators/entrepreneurs. He is one of the top 20 global influencers in digital health and innovation and was a HIMSS Future50 clinical leader in 2020.
In 2018 he was awarded the Future NHS award for NHS70 by members of parliament. In 2017 he was the top British Asian star in Tech. He was also the British Bangladeshi of the Year 2017.
He has cofounded Medical Realties, an XR education company and is the world’s fist chief medical metaverse officer for AIMEDIS who are building the first healthcare city in the Metaverse. He is a non-executive director of Medic Bleep, a communications platform for healthcare professionals and for The Considered, a global health ad agency.
He is a humanitarian and as worked in many countries including war zones and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2020 for his humanitarian work and global surgical education.
