He co-founded the Lean Enterprise Research Centre at Cardiff University, the only dedicated research centre in Lean Thinking in the world. He has pioneered a number of Lean application concepts and techniques including supplier associations, network sourcing, value stream mapping and value chain analysis.
He has authored and co-authored many books on Lean and SCM and acts as editorial advisor for several journals.
